So what does everyone here think about the Writers Guild of America going on strike? It will effect Power Rangers: Jungle Fury (although how much, we don't know yet), PR writer Jackie Marchland has been seen on strike. Here are my thoughts....
It will never be enough, because frankly, the writers are just as greedy as the execs, even though they don't make as much money; they still make way more than the average, hard-working American, and yet for some reason they think they deserve more. How does that work exactly?
Take the writers of Supernatural for instance, at this point they make $0.04 per disc/per DVD boxset, now if those boxsets sell 1 million copies, that's $240,000. Not to mention what they get paid otherwise. Hell, even if it sold 500,000 copies, that's still $120,000. And they want that doubled? Why exactly do they deserve that kind of money for writing 2-3 scripts a year? What makes them so much better than a firefighter, or a cop, or a teacher, who barely scrapes by year by year? It's bull.
I do think they deserve a cut from the internet sales, it's their work and they should get paid for it. But since when has writing made people rich? The majority of these writers aren't doing this because they can barely pay the bills, they just want more. And in another 15 or so years, it'll happen all over again.
The only reason I'm hoping the strike ends quickly is so (a) The show I enjoy watching doesn't get cancelled or cut short, and (b) The people who really do make crap in the way of money (and probably work just as hard, if not harder than the writers) can get their jobs back soon. If I was Key Grip #1 or whatever, I'd be pretty damn pissed...
The way I see it, the writers are being just as greedy as the people they're whining about.
Thoughts?
