At some point, the majority of people on ANY board ran a search on Yahoo or Google to find a Power Rangers forum they could join and discuss they're favorite TV show. For me, years ago, it was RangerBoard.
RB is probably the biggest and most well known forum out there. They had tons of members who posted all day everyday. Of course, out of the 1,000+ members, most of them are ***holes. They have these little inner circle of friends there, and if you're not in that inner circle, you're flamed or called a n00b. It took a long time for me to realize that it wasn't the place for me, but I did eventually.
Soon after, I settled on the Jetix forum where everyone was friendly, for the most part. I even started doing encodes for them. Every Monday after PR aired, I had it up and avaliable for download within the hour. After a while, the board started taking credit for the encodes, refusing to aknowledge that I'd done all the work.
Finally, I moved on and decided to start my own forum. It did fairly well. It wasn't as expensive as the other places, but I thought that was part of the charm. I hadn't paid a dime for it, just my time and effort, and people responded to that.
Well, that was over a year ago, and now my little dream and has been changed into one of those expensive "lets pay to have the best possible forum" type places. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with paying for services to have the best possible site, but after a while you forget why you started it all in the first place. This is suppose to be a place you can chat with other PR fans, thats it. You got a theory? Tell us all about it. You have a question? Ask, someone may have an answer.
Big boards are fine, but nothing beats a smaller board with a few members. The people on smaller boards all know one another, and when a new member joins, they make a big deal out of it. Everyone is welcomed and accepted, and thats a cool feeling.
So, the next time you come here (or places like this one) and you see that there hasn't been much activity, just remember that it isn't about how many members you have or how many times they post. Those things don't make a forum, its people who are passionate about what they enjoy and want to share it with others.
That, my friends, is priceless.
